FREE MOVIE GIVEAWAY

I've got an extra copy of Dirty Sanchez/Leaf Blower Massacre I was accidentally sent for review. Since I'm not a dick I've decided to do a giveaway. All you have to do is spread this page and let me know where you spread it. Open only to folks in the United States (sorry everyone else,I love you all but shipping costs and international postage rarely makes its journey unscathed in my experience). These are 2 movies I enjoyed very much and I know the lucky winner will as well.

In other news,my first film The Best Day Ever is trucking along. I've been working a lot and it's never been a main priority in my life which is why I'm ok with taking my time to give the best product I can. And also because I've come to an agreement for a distribution deal for it as well. Yes. Already. The film isn't even finished and the next steps are lined up. 👍🏻 more info/official announcement soon with some stills. My second film and first gorefest Horse Mask Massacre will be shooting in October. More on that soon.

More reviews soon as well. A nice write up on Massacre Video, spotlights on some forgotten 80's gems, and more. Stay tuned, and as always-fuck crowdfunding. Do it yourself.

Grinding The Core Films update

For the last year I've been writing, and shooting, and deleting, and tweaking, and rewriting, and reshooting, and deleting again, several films. The first of which finally seems to be on track and completed.

All films will be shot on video,8mm style for a genuine 1980's feel. DVD and vhs releases are as possibility but for now they will be posted free to watch on YouTube to gauge reaction and see if I'm just lying to myself about having the ability to create in a visual medium.

The first movie will be The Best Day Ever. It follows a man on his last day on earth. I am the only actor and my wife is running the camera. there is no dialog, just a narrative I'll be recording to really put you inside my mind. This is my attempt to lean what I'm doing in. Hands on approach so I'm not expecting a flawless finish. But it's an sov, flawless is hardly a word used to describe them.

The second film will be The Best Day Ever 2. This is the first film I wrote originally and features more black comedy and gore, which I'm still experimenting with to give the best performance possible. A special appearance by a b-movie legend is also possible if the chips fall in the right order.

The third film,an all out 80's slasher loaded with gore and cheesy dialog is called Death By The Slice. It follows a pizza delivery man on a bad day when enough is enough. I hope you're not lactose intolerant.

The fourth and final film I'm writing is tentatively titled Love-Death and it follows a man terrorizing a tennis school. Another cheese laden gorefest.

The plan is to have The Best Day Ever completed by Halloween with part 2 shooting over the winter. A Christmas slasher is also being spitballed but no definite details are locked down.

Keep an eye here for updates and info on what's coming up.

SPOTLIGHT:Trashmonger Video year 1 review.

Let me start by saying I've been working on this review since I received my first trash pack from the boys a year ago. In just one year they put out 6 tapes,3 DVDs and a cassette soundtrack. 3 of the 6 tapes were Trashmonger originals made in house. 2 were mix tapes and one was the first in a planned series of Carl j Sukenicks films.

Now,I'm a DVD and blu Ray collector. My tape collecting is limited to the occasional find at goodwill, But I have a vcr,and I love sov films more than anything. So when I saw Scrapbook Of Blood being sold in the SOV Facebook group for a mere $15 for the vhs/DVD combo shipped to my house I jumped on it. And trust me when I say that was one of the greatest decisions of my life. SOB is an anthology film featuring 3 short films loaded with dark humor, gore and plenty of head scratching moments. The thing that drew me most into it was the feel. If you didn't know better you would swear this came from the golden age. The cover art is one of the greatest on my shelves and the cassette soundtrack is often in my tape deck. The best part,it is 107 minutes long. Yes. Nearly 2 hours of entertainment on one tape. They didn't take the easy way out and skimp on anything with this film. And it shows. The original run of numbered tapes (mine were both #11) and DVDs are long gone, but you can get a non limited run of tapes and DVDs with different artwork direct from the boys.

Next up came anal log. A 48 minute mixtape about...well...to be honest after a dozen views I'm not sure. At times you can sense underlying themes but it's a lot of head scratching and confusion. And somehow it's done in a way that you're never bored. 48 minutes is up before you know it and you're left syncing the film up in your memory trying to piece it together like a fucked up Rubik's cube. Maybe that was their plan all along. This one was limited to 25 tapes only (mine is #5) and came signed by the lads on a picture of one of there mothers from 1990. You read that right. This one is also long out of print with no mention of a repress in sight,so if you ever happen upon it-get it.

Next up we have Mutant Detector 1000 from Carl j sukenicks Mutant Zone. To be honest,I've never understood the appeal of this guy. Sure,he came across as mentally unstable and his movies were beyond awful, but aside from that I didn't get it. But MD1000 showed me that maybe not getting it is exactly how you get him. I've since looked into more of his past work and enjoyed it more than I thought. MD1000 is an exercise in sci fi ,horror, black comedy, tin foil and creative genius. Clocking in at 75 minutes long you are beaten senseless by terrible creatures, stumbled dialog and surprisingly decent gore for a film of this caliber. It's Carl sukenick, what do you expect. This was limited to 50 tapes only (mine is #9) and is long sold out, becoming a theme isn't it?

The trash lads announced the follow up to SOB would be titled Demonator 4,another anthology film. They shot the shorts for D4 and realized one was a bit too long and didn't fit the vibe of the film,so the second vhs/DVD release was born in the form of Fine Housekeep. Fine Housekeep relies solely on the strength of its score and visual imagery to relay it's message. A husband in wife at home, plagued by visions. This is,in my opinion the weirdest movie they released. 57 minutes of gore, shaving cream, pitchforks in the chest, the whole nine yards. I adore this for what it is and have watched it many times now. It takes the creative impact the gang has and proves that even without speaking they can entertain and amaze. 50 copies were made of the tape, mine is #5. Sold out? Amazingly not quite!

Following up Fine Housekeep was another Mixtape, Devil Dogs From The Year 2000. 66.6 minutes of life in 1999 with Armageddon fast approaching. Much like Anal Log,the lads gave us another head scratcher. But incredibly enjoyable at the same time. Another limited to 25 (mines yet again #5) vhs only that is indeed sold out.

Last, but certainly not least we have the follow up to scrapbook of blood, the almighty Demonator 4. Demonator 4 refers to a gang of spooks telling a tale between the shorts. It's all interconnected, and when played right after scrapbook it brings 81 MORE minutes of joy. Demonator 4 is a lot more light hearted feeling, whereas with scrapbook you could tell they wanted every aspect and detail to be perfect. The fun they had making this transfers through to the screen wonderfully. D4 is my second favorite Trashmonger release behind scrapbook and I've yet to watch one without watching the other. Some copies still remain! 50 tapes were released (mine is #6).

Definitely the stars of my meager vhs collection.

A couple other things I wanted to touch on we're that every aspect of their releases are done in house. And they don't charge an arm and a leg for the finished products like some vhs companies, they do this for the love of it and respect for the genre.

And the scores. Holy shit,on top of being creative filmmakers they're also incredibly talented musicians. I don't understand how they so easily and perfectly capture the 1980's in every aspect but I'm not complaining.

But my favorite thing about Trashmonger? It's the little thank you note they throw in every box. That little gesture reaffirms you're supporting the good guys and they genuinely give a shit about you for it. They even sent me a Christmas card last year!

I am a Trashmonger completist owning all mentioned original run vhs and DVD and the cassette soundtrack and I will always give them my business no matter what they put out because I know It's going to be great.

Speaking of what's next, they just announced another Carl sukenick vhs with 2 shorts and they are in production on the follow up to Demonator 4 entitled Mondo Absurdo. Little details have been divulged about it yet,but I can only dream. They're also preparing cassette soundtracks for fine Housekeep and Demonator 4. One day pressing vinyl would be spectacular for the caliber of music the movies have.

The only way to get ahold of the boys is on Facebook. Just search Trashmonger Video and let your world be enriched and you happier as a result.

REVIEW:Leaf Blower Massacre

I'd like to start this review by saying Thank you to Anthony Cooney for sending me this and The Dirty Sanchez for review. It has resparked my interest in why I started this in the first place so hopefully more reviews and updates of my own films will be more frequent. Now onto the reason we're here.

Leaf Blower Massacre. With a title like that how could I not want this in my collections? And to be honest, the packaging alone is incredible. The title screen itself is just beautiful. And the disk is loaded with special features including 2 other shorts "expired" and "the walking retard",audio commentary and 4 trailers. I've literally already said all these great things so far and we haven't gotten to the film yet!

I'm a sucker for anything with the word Massacre in the title, and this 12 minute gem is no exception. The 1980's will never be topped in the horror world. Everything that came out was gold, even if it was complete shit (satans blade,I'm looking at you buddy.),and leaf blower massacre feels like it could have, and should have been from that time frame. Obviously Nailgun Massacre was the main source of inspiration here. Blatantly, and loving plagiarism abound with the killer. AND IT. IS. AWESOME. anytime you get a fat guy screaming like a little girl and people losing teeth,I'm a fan. But the overal concept is just so totally unfuckingbelievable that there's seriously ZERO chance it could be bad. The dialog is so cheesy it made me lactose intolerant, the ode to leatherface at the end of Texas chainsaw massacre, the random boomhauer character. It's just so many cliches and bad decisions in such a short time and amazingly they made it work in a way that will go down as nothing short of legendary. A sequel is in the works, which I believe and hope will be full length and take all the things in this scant runtime to new heights. Hit up the Leafblower Massacre Facebook to get a copy of this and updates on the sequel.

Gore score-6/10
Acting-3/10
Dialog-6/10
Packaging-9/10
Overall-9/10

Any gorehound needs to see this short, ridiculous slice of homegrown nostalgia. It's called Leaf Blower Massacre for Christ sakes, what more could you want?!

Review:The Dirty Sanchez

The Dirty Sanchez is a 25 minute film about a guy that clearly just doesn't give a fuck anymore. Donning a terrifying, yet simple mask and a pair of hedge trimmers he goes on a rampage. No one is safe. Not even blind people or a perverted old ice cream man. There was clearly no real budget for it,but it doesn't matter, you feel the passion and depravity in every second. Whether it's watching the killer enjoying dog food or raping a hostage with a skid mark in his underwear you feel the love in it. And for a no budget movie,it packs the blood and gore AND shows the kills (and castrations),unlike many classic 80's sov slashers that used camera angles to elude to a kill, they go all for it. While I doubt this movie will ever get the attention it deserves,I for one am glad to have seen and experienced it. I'd suggest hitting up the Leaf Blower Massacre Facebook page to see about obtaining a copy of both films. My review for LBM will be posted this evening as well.

Blood and gore-8/10
Acting-8/10
Plot-7/10
Packaging-8/10
Overall-8/10

I highly recommend this for fans of low budget films that know how to pack gore and humor in together in all the best ways.

Help get Pieces Of Talent 2 made!

I enjoy gutterballs and the guinea pig series as much as any other gore hound but for me Pieces Of Talent was one of my 2 picks for best of 2014 (full reviews forthcoming) and for some reason it's having trouble gaining traction to get funded. Head to www.piecesoftalent.com and check out the perks, while you're there pick up pieces on dvd. And a poster. And a vhs. It's a truly incredible piece of cinema that I love beyond words. In fact you can stream the whole movie direct from the site. So get to it!
